Rep. Juan Vargas Hosts Immigration Executive Action Orientation
EL CENTRO, CA (March 12, 2015) – Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) hosted an orientation event on President Barack Obama’s Immigration Executive Action in El Centro last night. The event provided details and eligibility information to the public about the programs made available by the Immigration Executive Action that was announced November 20, 2014. The event was organized in collaboration with Catholic Charities of San Diego and the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties.
“Yesterday, my office held a successful orientation that offered our community helpful facts about the President’s Immigration Executive Action,” said Vargas. “Residents from Imperial County came to find out more information about how the Executive Action affects their families and how they can apply for the programs.”
Event attendees heard from qualified individuals about eligibility requirements for the extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and the new Deferred Action for Parents Accountability (DAPA) program. The extension of DACA was scheduled to begin on February 20, 2015 but has been delayed due to the recent ruling of a Federal Judge in Texas.
“By taking the first step to address our country’s broken immigration system, President Obama introduced programs that will benefit the economy and America’s families,” said Vargas. “I remain confident that the Executive Action will be enacted as planned and encourage members of our community to prepare for its implementation.”
